FAQ

What to wear?

One of the questions I am asked most frequently by my clients is "what should I wear?" And it's no wonder! Your photos are an investment that you spend time and money on and want to look your best, not just for this year's Christmas card, but looking back. Here are some tips that will help you feel less overwhelmed and maybe a little inspired: *start with what you love (a certain color or favorite dress, something that makes you feel beautiful). Being comfortable and confident will show. Pick out something flattering, maybe a dress with movement to add a touch of grace and elegance. *for the guys, jeans and a well-fitted button up shirt (maybe even untucked and rolled up at the sleeves) or pull-over in the colder months looks sharp and masculine. If it's his style, try a sports coat with jeans. Use colors that compliment your dress and avoid too much white. It tends to wash out the skin. * for kids - Coordinating looks far better than matching. Neutral socks for any sitting poses that they may show. *I recommend a 2-3 color palette. Work in a floral or plaid through the solids. *Keeping with neutrals is another great option and can give your images a soft look that works well displayed anywhere. *Let the colors of your home inspire you. Where will these images go? What colors are in that room? *Don't forget to accessorize and layer (ie. scarf, necklace, bows for little girls). I am a hat lady, myself.

What should I expect during and after our session?

We'll start with some foundation poses, make adjustments to find what is most flattering, capture laughs, interaction, great lighting and emotion. I'll get a good variety and will edit and share the best of all that is captured delivered via a link to your email. You and I will both have printing/sharing rights of high resolution files. I recommend that you save these on multiple devices, but I keep back ups as well. If you are like most people, you'll post them and then procrastinate printing, so I've partnered with a professional print lab to offer affordable pricing and excellent quality for ordering those that you'd like to display. *see print investment guide. Just let me know which ones and we'll get them in within a couple of weeks.

How can I prepare my family?

You may want to bring snacks that won't stain, extra diapers and wipes, a hair brush, and something super meaningful like your child's favorite toy, blanket, antique chair that you want photographed. *make sure the kids are fed and rested. *tell them what we will be doing and make it sound exciting! *consider a reward/something fun afterwards *let them be little : ) just give them the grace to be little and know that I will capture their personalities and help make it fun. *make sure dad is rested and fed...haha...but, really, this applies here, too *show him a few of your favorite pictures from my website or FB page so that he can see the relaxed nature of my work and what to expect. *let him know how much this means to you and that you're glad he is willing to be such a team player. *make enough time on the day of your session for you to prepare and not feel rushed or anxious. *let go of your need for perfection. Preaching to the choir here. I get it. *don't worry about your kids not giving me their "real smiles." I have tricks to capture them at their best.

How and when do I pay for my session?

Deposits are only required for weddings. I will send an invoice for the session after via email and then send your gallery to the same email once payment is received.

What else should I know?

The most important thing for you to remember is to just enjoy your family. Let this be a time that you have fun with each other, tell silly stories and laugh a lot. Down the road, it won't matter nearly as much if you were having a not so great hair day that day or if your child wasn't listening well. You will look back on these photos and remember this moment in time...and how quickly it went.
